Town councillor Gillian Wroe donates the money to Westhoughton Assist Service

A kind-hearted Westhoughton resident gave £40 to litter pickers to thank them for their efforts.

The money was later donated to the Westhoughton Assist Service by Westhoughton Liberal Democrat town councillor Gillian Wroe.

Gillian said: “On Sunday, in the middle of our litter pick, a lovely gentleman cycled up to us and said thank you for what we were doing.

“What happened next stunned us. He wanted to buy us a coffee for after the pick and got out £40! Yes, £40! We said we couldn’t possibly accept but, when he insisted, we said we would if we could donate it to charity instead.

“So, here it is being handed over to the Westhoughton Assist Service who do so much for people in need in Westhoughton. Thank you to our anonymous friend.”

Gillian and other town councillors joined residents in a three-day Big Spring Clean, which saw almost 90 bags of rubbish collected from the streets of Westhoughton.
