Petition: Stop destruction of Westhoughton Town Hall

The red-brick facade of Westhoughton Town Hall is set to be ruined

A proposal to smash the front of Westhoughton Town Hall’s historic red brick building and replace it with large glass windows has been given the go-ahead by Tory councillors. Sign our petition against the plans.

The proposal, which will also see the town hall converted into two restaurants and a cafe, was approved by the Tory executive cabinet member.

The Tories have not proposed community use, despite Westhoughton’s growing population with thousands more houses being built and community facilities reducing.

Residents have reacted angrily to the news:

Wisdom, common sense and economic literacy have been chasing Bolton Council, but the council have always been faster.
— Stephen Richardson

Total joke. They knew all along what they were going to do with the town hall. They don’t care about the people of Westhoughton.
— Suzanne France

It’s absolutely appalling. They have their own agenda and drive forward regardless. It really does feel uncomfortable about how decisions are made. The plan to change the windows is totally unnecessary. It will destroy the look of the building and just doesn’t make any sense.
— June Law

The Liberal Democrat team in Westhoughton is calling on the Tory-run administration to not go ahead with the destruction of the town hall’s facade.

Please help us by joining other Westhoughton residents in signing our petition and sharing it with your friends.
