Westhoughton health services at breaking point

Westhoughton North and Hunger Hill by-election candidate Deirdre McGeown with her health survey

Deirdre McGeown’s recent health survey has revealed how angry Westhoughton and Hunger Hill residents are about overdevelopment putting our health services at breaking point.

The health survey showed:

  • One resident told how she was number 265 in a waitlist at a dentist after being turned away by other practices in Westhoughton.

  • One woman was told the wait for an ambulance would be more than 23 hours

  • A resident had to wait more than 4 weeks for a GP appointment

  • Another had to wait more than 24 hours in A&E

Data also shows 20% of Bolton cancer patients have to wait more than 62 days to receive treatment after receiving an urgent referral.

Residents say they are angry with Labour and Conservative councillors who continue to support the overdevelopment of Westhoughton’s last remaining green spaces.

Deirdre, who is seeking election on the Westhoughton North and Hunger Hill by-election on Thursday 16 November, said: “There’s been no consideration for the pressure on our public services such as the doctors, dentists and hospital. Our roads have also been left to become more congested and more dangerous.”

Deirdre and the Liberal Democrat team want to see town hall bosses take these pressures on local services seriously. We oppose further development that will only add to the problems people face.

Deirdre and her colleagues on Westhoughton Town Council are also hoping to engage with local health leaders to achieve better health outcomes for Westhoughton residents.
