Town Hall saved from Tory plan to wreck historic facade

Liberal Democrat campaigner Deirdre McGeown and councillor Arthur Price at Westhoughton Town Hall

Tory councillors in Westhoughton are now claiming that they never had any plans to alter the historic facade of Westhoughton Town Hall, despite council documents showing otherwise.

Your Liberal Democrat councillor Arthur Price has won assurances that the historic facade of Westhoughton Town Hall will no longer be altered, as was the plan by Bolton Tory councillors.

Council plans show the proposed changes

Arthur said: “Now the Tories are in complete denial about their own plans. It just goes to show that we can’t trust a word they say.

“I’m pleased that we now have assurances from the new council administration that the town hall’s facade will be protected.”

The Tory candidate in the upcoming Westhoughton North and Hunger Hill by-election, who lives miles away in Horwich, also wasted almost £1 million on Market Street footpaths that are widely hated and unwanted by residents, leaving no money left for much-needed Central Park improvements.

Voters are being encouraged to elect Liberal Democrat candidate Deirdre McGeown, who is an experienced councillor who lives locally. She is also currently serving as Westhoughton’s Town Mayor.
