Westhoughton town mayor Deirdre McGeown put her baking skills to good use when she donated a cake to the residents of Woodlands Care Home in the town.

Councillor McGeown was joined by deputy town mayor Ollie Younge on Sunday when she presented the cake, which was decorated as the head of a cow, the symbol of “Keaw Yed” Westhoughton.

The cake had been made to say thank you to litter pickers who recently supported Westhoughton Town Council’s Big Spring Clean event, in which Liberal Democrat councillors and residents joined forces to collect 90 bags of rubbish in three days.

Litter pickers attended a thank you event at St Bartholomew’s Church on Saturday but had already eaten Liberal Democrat town councillors Linda Maher and Alison Jackson’s cupcakes.

Councillor McGeown said: “We had more cake than we needed so we thought it would be a nice idea to pop down to Woodlands with the cake and have a good old natter with the residents. They seemed thrilled to see us and the cake went down very well.”
