Funding boost for girls rugby at Westhoughton Lions
Westhoughton Lions are presented with a cheque by town mayor Deirdre McGeown and the mayor’s consort Ollie Younge
Westhoughton Lions have been awarded £500 to help them provide free rugby sessions for young girls.
The popular local sports club was awarded the grant by Westhoughton Town Council, which gives grants of up to £500 to community organisations.
Westhoughton town mayor Deirdre McGeown presented a cheque to club officials and youngsters. She said: “Although Westhoughton Lions were unable to train, as the ground was too wet, they turned up to see me with Consort Ollie Younge, handing over a cheque."
“Westhoughton Lions applied for a grant from Westhoughton Town Council and as Mayor I was delighted to pass this on.”
Other organisations wishing to apply for a grant can do so using the application form on the town council’s web page.
