‘Little river’ at Daisy Hill station has ‘gone on too long’

The ‘little river’ outside Daisy Hill railway station

The problem of a “little river” outside Daisy Hill station as “gone on far too long”, Westhoughton councillor David Wilkinson has said, as he called for the gully drains to be cleared on Leigh Road.

The Liberal Democrat councillor for Westhoughton South ward asked Bolton Council to clear gullies on Leigh Road. Councillor Wilkinson said that the highways team had done a good job on clearing the drains.

Councillor Wilkinson said: “It appears that the problem of this little river is with the capacity of the drainage system at this location and water coming up out of a grid at the entrance to the car park and flooding the road in from the station. It’s gone on for far too long.

“For several months we have been working with Bolton Council’s highways team to get United Utilities to sort the problem. Slow is an understatement when it comes to United Utilities. We have even had to send videos and photos because they couldn’t be bothered to go to the location. Recently they appear to have been taking more interest in the problem.”

Resident Ann Horrocks wrote on Facebook: “My husband and I got drenched walking from the station to the carpark by passing cars. Imagine someone going for a job interview or all dressed up for a night out. It's ridiculous.”
