Westhoughton schools start daffodil planting

Westhoughton’s nine schools have taken delivery of 200 daffodils each which their schoolchildren are going to plant.

The bulb planting initiative is part of Westhoughton Town Council’s Big Plant scheme, which will see 4,000 daffodils planted across the town this year.

Westhoughton Liberal Democrat town councillor Alison Jackson, who has led the initiative, met with school representatives along with fellow councillor Linda Maher to hand over the bulbs.

The Big Plant scheme is going to be continued by the town council over the next few years and councillors will be looking at different planting schemes.

Alison said: “It was fantastic to be able to hand over the daffodil bulbs to the schools this week and I can’t wait for the children to start planting them. It’s going to make a huge difference to Westhoughton, bringing a splash of colour in the spring.”
