Westhoughton Library masonry chunks crash to ground

Fencing has been erected around Westhoughton Library

Several chunks of masonry fell off Westhoughton Library, luckily missing passersby.

Westhoughton North councillor Arthur Price immediately asked Bolton Council to carry out a safety inspection. He said: “The never ending saga of Westhoughton town hall and library carries on. This was a narrow miss and we are very lucky nobody was hurt.”

It comes just months before new scaffolding is due to be erected around the town hall and library in order to carry out repairs.

Bolton Council said that the building was deemed “safe” despite the incident. Temporary fencing had been erected to keep people away from the part of the building where the masonry fell.

Parts of the masonry collapsed to the floor
