Westhoughton Mayor pays respects to Queen Elizabeth

Westhoughton town mayor Deirdre McGeown and deputy town mayor Ollie Younge pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II

Westhoughton town mayor Deirdre McGeown has paid her respects to the late Queen Elizabeth on behalf of the townspeople.

Councillor McGeown was joined by deputy town mayor Ollie Younge at the Westhoughton Cenotaph today, where she made a statement recognising the incredible life of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

In the statement, she said: “Our beloved Queen Elizabeth II, the longest reigning monarch ever, has passed away. And it is with the saddest of hearts that I write this on behalf of Westhoughton Town Council, as Mayor.

“Elizabeth II has been an unparalleled monarch and lived a life of service and devotion to her country. She was also an incredible woman, setting examples to the nation and to the world. She was loved and admired by all. Losing her beloved husband of so many years will have hurt her beyond words.

“Her work now is done, and they are together. She gave herself and her life to help people.

“So we all mourn her today because each and every one of us have lost our Queen. We thank you, Your Majesty, for all your years of devotion to us. Your people, for whom you have been a constant and cornerstone in our lives for so long, have taken your reign for granted. You have seen our country through every crisis and faced your own heartbreaks with dignity. We will be lost without you.

“Whilst you are our Queen, you were a mother, her grandmother and a great grandmother. And our love goes out to them, rest in peace, Your Majesty.”
