Mayor surprises senior citizens with visit to craft session

Westhoughton town mayor Deirdre McGeown surprised senior citizens with a visit to their craft session.

Councillor McGeown, joined by her consort Ollie Younge, dropped into the Senior Solutions social group to talk to residents and volunteers.

The team at Senior Solutions said: “We had the Mayor visit our social group, joining our craft session and talking with clients. One of our ladies wanted to celebrate her birthday with us and we enjoyed ice cream.”

The group is on the look-out for budding volunteers who can spare just an hour a week to visit an older person to brighten their day.

Councillor McGeown said: “They are a wonderful organisation doing great work, so if you are able to spare some time, please do get in touch with them.”
