Tories sell 18 acres of land at Chew Moor

A massive part of Chew Moor is being sold by Tory-run Bolton Council.

The area of land between Tempest Road and the railway line is going to be sold following a decision by the Executive Member for Regeneration on August 15.

The disposal order simply states that it should be sold “for the best consideration”, which is town hall speak for “as much as possible”.

The Tory administration has placed no restrictions on the use of the land.

It appears from the report that the three Tory councillors for Westhoughton North and Chew Moor have either supported the sale or not objected.

Local residents have reacted in anger to the decision on the My Chew Moor group on Facebook.

Stuart Simpson said: “If it's used for housing that'll be more drivers using Chew Moor Lane as a racetrack.”

Kev Doyle added: “Martyn Cox and Bernadette Eckersley-Fallon, I don’t recall seeing this on your election leaflets.”
