A summer fun day in Westhoughton’s Central Park was well attended by children and their families today.

The day of free activities was paid for by Liberal Democrat run Westhoughton Town Council, which is committed to providing play and youth provision for the community.

The event was provided by Play and Youth Bolton, who are also running weekly activities throughout the summer in Westhoughton, thanks to the town council’s funding.

Activities included family lawn games, a state of the art mobile skate park, UV disco, inspirational cooking sessions, bike sessions and stalls.

Town councillors Alison Jackson, Linda Maher and Arthur Price, along with the town mayor’s consort Ollie Younge, attended the event to show their support.

Alison said: “It was great to see a few hundred children and their families at the event. It’s been a huge success and as councillors we were all really pleased to come along to see how the council’s money is being invested.

“We are going to be looking at further events for young people for the rest of the council year and a bigger programme of events for next summer. We’re love to hear people’s suggestions of what they’d like to see.”
