Councillor Deirdre McGeown has been reappointed as Westhoughton’s town mayor and is on a mission to raise money for two great local causes.

Alongside Deirdre, councillor Neil Maher was selected as Deputy Town Mayor at a recent Westhoughton Town Council meeting.

Councillor McGeown is raising money for Westhoughton Senior Solutions and John Holt Nursery.

She said: “Representing the residents of Westhoughton as Town Mayor is an honour and privilege. I never envisaged that I would have an opportunity to not only help people but represent the residents of this wonderful community as mayor.

“Last year I met so many lovely people all doing their best to help others in this difficult time. I can honestly say it’s been a whirlwind and the memories will stay with me forever.

“I plan to spend the next year working with the many community groups in Westhoughton to help not only those who need it but encourage the many talented individuals to use their skills for their future and the future of Westhoughton.

“I will also be arranging some charity events to raise as much money as I can for my chosen charities, Westhoughton Senior Solutions and John Holt Nursery, two local groups who would benefit from any funds raised.”

As a keen baker, one of Deirdre’s recent highlights was taking her homemade ‘Keaw Yed’ cake to the Woodlands care home, on Wigan Road, where she greeted residents.
